Formerly, Derrick Rose was a professional basketball player in the United States. Before being picked first overall by the Chicago Bulls, his hometown, in the 2008 NBA draft, he played one year of college basketball with the Memphis Tigers. In 2011, at 22 years and 7 months of age, he became the youngest player to win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award after being given the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 2009.
Rose went to Simeon Career Academy and was raised in Chicago. After being highly recruited by colleges, he decided to play for coach John Calipari at the University of Memphis.
