The Golden State Warriors, or "Dubs," are an NBA team from San Francisco. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, they relocated to San Francisco in 1962 and were later named the Golden State Warriors. The franchise has won seven championships to date. However, the Warriors dynasty was formed in the 2010s, with the likes of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green on the team. The trio delivered four titles in eight seasons between 2015 - 2022. The Warriors hold the best regular-season record, finishing the 2015-16 regular season with 73 wins.

Golden State Warriors Famous Players

Ad

Wilt Chamberlain

Basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain left an indelible mark on the Golden State Warriors during his five-and-a-half-season tenure with the team. Although he played three years in Philadelphia and two and a half in San Francisco, Chamberlain’s impact was immense. He stands as the Golden State Warriors' all-time leader in win shares and points scored in a Warriors jersey, a record soon to be challenged by Steph Curry.

Wilt Chamberlain’s dominance is unrivaled in NBA history. He boasts the highest season averages for points and rebounds per game, including a mind-boggling 50.4 points and 25.7 rebounds in his third season. His scoring prowess, with a staggering 41.5 points per game in the course of his Golden State Warriors’ stint remains unparalleled. While criticized for being a ball-dominant player and falling short of an NBA title with the Golden State Warriors, Wilt’s unmatchable individual records secure his place as the team’s greatest participant.

Stephen Curry

Ad

Widely regarded as the best shooter of all time, Stephen Curry has performed a pivotal function in transforming the Golden State Warriors from a struggling team to a basketball powerhouse. In the last eight years, Curry’s sharpshooting abilities have brought four titles to the franchise. He was named NBA Finals MVP in 2022.

Rick Barry

Rick Barry was regarded as a versatile basketball player who extended far beyond scoring. He is one of those NBA members with over 18,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, and 4,000 assists. In the sphere of ABA, only a handful of legends like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James can match or surpass his all-around contributions.

Barry not only turned into an offensive force who excelled defensively but also led the NBA in steals during the 1974-75 season. He was an eight-time All-Star and was named Finals MVP in 1975.

Paul Arizin

Another outstanding player in the records of the Golden State Warriors is Paul Arizin. He spent his whole basketball career with the Golden State Warriors and earned a well-deserved spot in the Hall of Fame in 1978. Arizin’s impact on the basketball court was immense, with 10 consecutive All-Star selections and consistent scoring, averaging over 20 points per game over nine seasons.

Although there was no MVP award until 1956, he undoubtedly deserved one in 1952, leading in multiple statistical categories and demonstrating his value to the group.

Neil Johnston

Neil Johnson had a relatively brief NBA career, but his journey was remarkable. Disregarding his rookie and final seasons with limited playing time, he shone for six years, averaging 22.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. Neil was a statistical marvel, leading in rebounds in 1955 and points in 1953, 1954, and 1955.

His most impressive feat was leading the league in win shares for five consecutive seasons, a feat achieved only by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James.

Golden State Warriors History

Established in Philadelphia, the Golden State Warriors moved to San Francisco in 1962. In the very next year of foundation, the team won their first championship in 1947. The franchise won its next two championships in 1956 and 1975.

The franchise started facing ups and downs in the 1980s. But the success was not far, as the team drafted Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in 2010. The three led to the creation of the Warriors dynasty, which won four titles in eight years between 2015 and 2022. Their 2016 season set a regular-season record with 73 wins.

Joe Lacob is the co-executive chairman and CEO of the Golden State Warriors, who has been a driving force behind the team’s incredible success. Since leading an ownership group’s acquisition of the Golden State Warriors in 2010 for $450 million, Lacob’s visionary management has seen the team’s value soar almost tenfold.

With a 25% stake now worth over $1.4 billion, he is not only a wise businessman but also a passionate basketball fan. Under his ownership, the Golden State Warriors have won four NBA titles and achieved the best regular season record in league history in 2015-16, with a remarkable 73 wins. Before owning this team, Joe Lacob was a minority owner of the Boston Celtics.
