Steph Curry's Golden State Warriors aren't pursuing Anthony Davis after all. The rumor picked up on Saturday but was quickly put to rest by NBA insider Brett Siegel, who claimed there was 'zero truth' on Golden State reuniting Curry with his US Olympic Gold Medal-winning teammate.
"There is zero truth to the Warriors-Anthony Davis rumor," Siegel wrote on X. "Golden State has NOT contacted Dallas about Davis, nor do they intend to this season."
While Davis would solve significant issues for the Warriors at the center position with his post scoring, rim protection and rebounding, his salary is a massive issue. He is making $54.1 million this season, $58.5 million in 2026-27 and if he opts in, $62.7 million in 2027-28.

The Warriors will likely have to trade one of Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler. Golden State has already made Green untouchable in trade talks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has a much higher market value than Davis.
As far as Butler goes, it's unlikely the Mavericks or any other team would want him for his age, injury history and the remaining two years of his $111.0 million contract (including this season). Davis, 32, is four years younger than Butler. He remains more impactful at this stage when healthy.
These factors rule out the possibility of Davis going to the Warriors, especially in a midseason trade.
Warriors will likely pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo over Anthony Davis if it comes down to it
The Golden State Warriors have barely stayed afloat in the 2025-26 NBA season. After starting 4-1, they recorded eight wins and 11 losses and are 12-12 after Saturday's win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. It's clear as day that the Warriors need reinforcements to contend in the Western Conference.
Whether that's through marginal upgrades or another star addition remains to be seen. If it boils down to the latter, Golden State might pursue a younger star who can help them transition into the future after Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler (if he's on the roster) call time on their careers.
Giannis Antetokounmpo turned 31 on Saturday, but he's still in his prime and comparatively younger than someone like Anthony Davis. The Warriors will likely covet someone like him over Davis if they plan to go big at the trade deadline. Golden State has four first-round picks and multiple swaps, with young players.
They will have to find a suitor for Jimmy Butler, though, as that's the only way they can acquire Antetokounmpo without breaking CBA rules.
