Vancouver Canucks (2016-present)

Thatcher Demko made his NHL debut on March 31, 2018, where he quickly made his impact by stopping 26 shots helping the Canucks secure a memorable 5-4 overtime victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, Demko would spend the rest of the season in the American Hockey League (AHL) for further development. He was recalled to the NHL in January 2019, after a full-time backup position had opened for him. He finished the year strongly posting a save percentage of .913 and a GAA of 2.81. This led to a two-year contract extension worth $2.1 million with the team.

In the 2019-20 season, Demko continued as a backup until a knee injury sidelined Jacob Markstrom for an entire month. He started sevon of the final eight games for the Canucks going 3-4-0 with a save percentage of .906. His notable performances, including a memorable 45-save shootout win over the New York Islanders cemented his place as a rising star in the NHL.

During the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs, Demko stood out for delivering outstanding performances against the Vegas Golden Knights. In the process, he became the first rookie goaltender since Jacques Plante in 1953 to win his first two career playoff starts while facing elimination. Demko's remarkable saves earned him applause and a spot in the first star in all three games he played.

He continued to excel the following season and solidified his place as a starting goaltender for the Canucks. A significant moment occurred when Demko received his first NHL All-Star nomination on January 31, 2022. He repeated this feat in 2024 when he represented the Canucks at the 2024 NHL All-Star game. Demko was named a Vezina Trophy finalist for the first time in his career for the 2023–24 season.
