Luke Hughes shared his thoughts after his brother Quinn Hughes was traded to the Minnesota Wild. Quinn was initially linked to the New Jersey Devils because of Luke and Jack Hughes. However, things changed when Minnesota inquired about Hughes' availability to the Canucks.Speaking to the media after Saturday's 4-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks, the Devils defenseman kept his feelings clear."I don't know. I would have loved to have him here and, obviously, Jack, and, not just because he's, you know, our brother, but 'cause he's top two D in the league," Luke said."So, you know, he's an unbelievable player, and I don't know, I think it would have been great to have him here, but at the same time it's sports, and you know, he's gonna be great in Minnesota. He's really excited."Despite that, Luke accepted the reality of the trade, since sports often move fast and leave little time to adjust. Asked about the emotional side, Luke said the moment did not overwhelm him. He focused on Quinn Hughes’ happiness more than the change itself."Not that emotional, I mean, I'm really excited for him," Luke said. "He's really excited. And, I think it's sports, and you know he loved his time in Vancouver, and he loved everything about it, and it's time to move on."The Canucks dealt Quinn Hughes to the Wild for Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, Zeev Buium, and a 2026 first-round pick. The trade marked a major shift for a team sliding in the standings with an 11-17-3 record.Talking about all three brothers playing together, Luke said,"We've always wanted to play together, whether it's in the NHL or on a US national team, or you never know what can happen. We have a lot of years left in our careers. So he's really excited. And our family is there for him, and you know, he's going to be great for that, for that team."Talking about the trade's shock to the family, Luke said,"I was a little shocking. I guess obviously, we kind of knew it was coming, like everyone else. But, you know, like I said, stuff happens in sports, and it's part of the business, and whether you like it or whether you don't like it, you know, it's part of our job."Canucks' Jim Rutherford on Quinn Hughes' trade to WildQuinn Hughes leaves Vancouver as one of the best players in franchise history. He won the Norris Trophy in the 2023-24 season and served as team captain for nearly three seasons. He led the Canucks in points at the time of the trade with 23 points. With his free agency approaching in two years, the front office chose a new direction amid their slump.Canucks' President of Hockey Operations, Jim Rutherford, said,"It's difficult trading a player like Quinn. We love him as a person and as a player, one of the greatest players that’s ever played for the Canucks. I think that we have to respect what he's done here, and respect the fact that he was getting closer to free agency and he'd have a choice to go where he wanted."Minnesota welcomed Quinn Hughes as a rare chance to add a true star. The Wild sit near the top of the Central Division with an 18-9-5 record and see Hughes as a missing piece.
