After months of speculation and buzz, Quinn Hughes was traded by the Vancouver Canucks to the Minnesota Wild on Friday. As part of the deal, the Canucks received Marco Rossi, Liam Öhgren, Zeev Buium, and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Now that the dust has settled, many fans are wondering about Hughes’ debut for the Wild. There is a possibility that Hughes could make his debut as soon as Saturday against the Ottawa Senators.

He could also play his first game for the Minnesota Wild on Sunday at home against the Boston Bruins, allowing extra time to adjust after the trade. Meanwhile, Quinn Hughes will play his first game against the Vancouver Canucks on April 2 at Xcel Energy Center.

Following Hughes’ trade to the Minnesota Wild, Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin reflected on the difficult decision, acknowledging the defenseman’s significant impact on the franchise.

"It’s definitely not an easy day for the franchise," Allvin said via NHL.com. "Quinn Hughes has been a big part of the organization and a great person and a great hockey player and has a lot of records. It’s a tough, tough day, but we’re also excited about the return on the players we got here, the younger players and we’ll continue to build with them from Minnesota."

Hughes had been with the Canucks for the last eight seasons, after being drafted No. 7 overall by them in the 2018 NHL draft. The 2023-24 Norris Trophy winner has accumulated 432 points through 61 goals and 371 assists in 459 career games.

This season, Hughes racked up 23 points through two goals and 21 assists in 26 games.
