Miami-based,​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ the Miami Heat is an American professional basketball team. The Heat is a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The team has clinched the NBA championship three times and holds its home matches at the Kaseya Center.

The franchise was the NBA's expansion team, and thus, it began competing in the 1988–89 ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌season. After acquiring former MVP Shaquille O'Neal, the Wade-led Heat won their first NBA title in 2006.
