Avery Johnson, born on November 2, 2004, was one of the most highly sought-after quarterbacks in the class of 2023. He began his high school football career at the Maize High School where he was rated a consensus four-star recruit by all major sports outlets. He participated in the Elite 11 quarterback competition and was named a finalist in the summer of 2022. Johnson was the No.2 dual-threat quarterback in the country and a top player in the state of Kansas. The Wichita native threw for 2,768 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior and was named the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022.
Coming out of High school, the 6-foot-2, 188-pound quarterback decided to represent the University of Kansas over several offers and embarked on his collegiate football journey with the Kansas State Wildcats. As a freshman in 2023 with the Wildcats, Johnson saw action in eight games and earned himself the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award. He rushed for 296 yards and seven touchdowns on 52 carries. The Wichita native won MVP honors after leading the Kansas State Wildcats to a victory in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
