“Still crying is crazy,” “Join a conference”: Fans rip Pete Bevacqua after Notre Dame AD claims team was “targeted” by ACC’s pro-Miami playoff push

Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua believes that the Fighting Irish were "targeted" by ACC social media campaigns pushing the Miami Hurricanes over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the CFP:

“We were definitely being targeted.... We bring tremendous football value to the ACC, and we didn’t understand why you’d go out of your way to try and damage us in the process,” said Bevacqua.

College football fans caught wind of his words and gave their two cents on X (formerly Twitter).

A fan said, "Still crying is crazy."

One wrote, "omg dude give it up already."

Some fans agreed with Bevacqua.

One said, "He's not wrong. Especially when you look at how the Networks are now competing against each other."
Another wrote, "We carry the ACC and get this in return."
One chimed in, saying, "Time to go back to full independence."

The Fighting Irish and Hurricanes were the primary contenders for the final at-large spot in the CFP. The Fighting Irish won 10 consecutive games, while the Hurricanes ended their campaign with four straight wins.

Ultimately, Miami toppled Notre Dame in the final rankings, largely due to its 27-24 win over the Fighting Irish on August 31 and, potentially, a massive ACC media push. It's a decision that irked Bevacqua and the rest of the Notre Dame faithful.

Notre Dame opts out of bowl game

Notre Dame has opted out of this season's bowl game. The Fighting Irish made their decision after being snubbed from the College Football Playoffs for the ongoing campaign.

The Fighting Irish (10-2) were one of the red-hot teams in college football. They posted ten straight wins, and their only losses this season came against playoff-bound teams by a combined four points.

According to On3 Sports, Notre Dame was set to face off against the BYU Cougars in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. The game could have been a battle of the first and second teams out of the playoffs. However, Notre Dame will now focus on preparing for the upcoming campaign.
