Tre Johnson played as a guard for the Texas Longhorns in the Southeastern Conference in the 2024/25 season. Johnson was a freshman last season and made himself eligible for the 2025 NBA draft. According to 247 Sports Composite, ESPN, and Rivals, Johnson was the fifth-ranked player in the country for the class of 2024.
He was selected to the 2024 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Boys' High School All-America Second Team and was named the 23rd player in the history of the UT program to be named a McDonald's All-American. He attended Lake Highlands High School (Dallas, Texas) for his freshman through junior seasons. In 2023, he was selected as the state of Texas's National Junior of the Year by MaxPreps and Mr. Basketball. In the Class 6A state championship game, Johnson scored a game-high 29 points as his team defeated Beaumont United 55-44. In boys' basketball, Lake Highlands won its first state title since 1968.
