The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly ready to trade Klay Thompson and D'Angelo Russell amid their tough start to the season. The Mavericks are 4-11 after the first four weeks of the campaign, with the latest trade rumors suggesting a potential fire sale.

According to Ashish Mathur of the Dallas Hoops Journal, NBA executives are expecting the Mavericks to shop Thompson, Russell, as well as Daniel Gafford and Anthony Davis. The four-time champ has been struggling in his second season in Dallas, though he has started to find his rhythm off the bench.

Russell has not played well as a starter or as a sixth man, going viral for a terrible possession in the Mavericks' previous game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. As for Gafford and Davis, they are likely to gain the most suitors despite their injury history this season.

In a separate report, Ashish Mathur of the Dallas Hoops Journal added that Klay Thompson understands that the Mavericks are looking to unload him. Thompson has struggled this season, averaging 9.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

That is a career low in points, while he's also shooting 33.8% from the field and 31.1% from beyond the arc, which are the worst of his career. It will be interesting to see if teams are willing to absorb his contract and possibly give him a fresh start to recapture his shooting touch.

On the other hand, D'Angelo Russell is putting up career lows as well. He's averaging 11.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

While the situation in Dallas is pretty bad, there are worse teams to play for in the NBA this season. One of those teams is the New Orleans Pelicans, a franchise with no current direction and had just fired their head coach.

CBS Sports' Sam Quinn thought of how the Mavericks would start a rebuild. Quinn suggested trading all their key players outside of Cooper Flagg. He had Thompson getting traded to the Pelicans, who should be rebuilding at this point, though they don't even own their first-round pick next year.

In this trade, the Mavericks acquire an injured Dejounte Murray and send Thompson, Dwight Powell and Caleb Martin to the Pelicans. Other teams that are being linked to Thompson include the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons and LA Lakers.
