In just his second game back from a quad injury that kept him out for more than two weeks, Steph Curry exploded for 48 points. Despite the scoring outburst, the Golden State Warriors came up short, losing 136-131 to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. The loss only added to the growing frustration among Warriors fans.

In Curry’s fourth 40-point performance of the season, he hit 16 shots on only 26 attempts, including 12 three-pointers, and went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

However, the effort did not result in a win, leaving many fans wondering what more Curry can realistically do to carry Golden State over the line.

Steph Curry’s performance came on a night when help was hard to find. Jimmy Butler, the team’s second-best player, finished with just 16 points on 3-11 FG. The rest of the starting lineup did little to make up the difference, with Draymond Green, Moses Moody, and Quentin Post combining for 37 points and a collective box plus minus of -13.

Portland, on the other hand, was co-led by Jerami Grant and Shaedon Sharpe, who recorded 35 points each. Additionally, Deni Avdija stepped up in the clutch. Avdija made several key plays down the stretch to help the Blazers trim the difference, ultimately ending the contest with 26 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.

Steph Curry surpasses Michael Jordan with latest 48-point outing

Even though the Golden State Warriors suffered a loss on Sunday, it was still a historic night for Steph Curry.

Since turning 30, he has now recorded 45 games with at least 40 points, moving past Michael Jordan, who previously held the mark with 44. Among active players, only Damian Lillard and James Harden appear in the top six on this list, with Lillard at 31 such games and Harden at 30, tied with Kobe Bryant.

Curry also continues to separate himself in another age-related stat. Since turning 35, he has scored at least 45 or more points eight times, extending his lead over LeBron James (6) and Michael Jordan (3).

Now in his 17th NBA season, Steph Curry is showing no signs of slowing down. He is averaging 29.6 points per game, his highest scoring average since the 2020-21 season when he won the scoring title.
