The Orlando Magic took a big hit on their roster as star Franz Wagner went down with an apparent leg injury in the first quarter of their game against the New York Knicks on Sunday.According to the team, Wagner is ruled out for the rest of the game in New York, and will be re-evaluated once the squad get back to Orlando.Wagner picked up the injury during a fastbreak play, where he received an alley-oop pass from Magic guard Anthony Black before getting fouled by Knicks' Ariel Hukporti.Wagner fell awkwardly and then held his left knee as his teammates watched in concern. He was helped off the floor by the team's staff. Before the play, Wagner had seven points, on 3-of-4 shooting from the field, in the first seven minutes of the game.Wagner had suffered injuries in the past, including a torn right oblique that caused him to miss more than 20 games last NBA season.Wagner has been stellar this season, putting up 23.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game for the Magic, whose squad currently stands in the fifth spot of the Eastern Conference.Franz Wagner has been tremendous for Orlando, says Magic head coachMagic head coach Jamahl Mosley has been high on Franz Wagner as a player. In an interview by NBA.com last season, Mosley lauded Wagner's work ethic and professionalism on the basketball court, which, he said, propelled him into a star in Orlando.“He’s not afraid of big moments, and that’s what we’ve asked him to do,” said Mosley. “I could not be happier for this team. But for him, who puts in such an amazing amount of work, and to see that fall is just (great).""I can’t say enough about Franz, his work ethic and this group’s grit that they continue to show.”With his injury, the Magic may need to rely more on Paolo Banchero, who is fresh from recovering from a left groin injury that caused him to miss 10 games.Aside from Banchero, the team still has Desmond Bane, Anthony Black, and Jalen Suggs to lean on to fill the shoes left by Wagner due to injury.
