Luka Doncic was the undeniable star in the LA Lakers-San Antonio Spurs clash on Wednesday, leading the Purple and Gold to a 118-116 victory. He played almost 42 minutes and put on a show the entire night, leaving the crowd buzzing with his constant highlight plays. Even LeBron James and Austin Reaves, who are used to seeing his brilliance up close, were left stunned by one particular move.

Midway through the second quarter, Doncic received the ball in the low post. Julian Champagnie and Kelly Olynyk quickly formed a tight double team. Instead of forcing a tough shot or kicking it out, Luka smartly used his pivot foot, maneuvered between the defenders, and finished the play with a wide-open layup.

LeBron and Reaves were seemingly in shock, reacting to Doncic’s simple yet effective play.

Luka Doncic picked up early foul trouble, but it didn’t slow him down at all. He still took over the game and filled up the box score with 35 points, 9 rebounds, 13 assists and 7 ‘stocks’ (steals + blocks).

His all-around effort played a huge role in helping LA secure its fifth straight win and its seventh of the season. With that, JJ Redick’s team is placed second in the Western Conference standings with a 7-2 record.

The LA Lakers have been dealing with injuries early in the 2025-2026 season. In Wednesday’s game at Crypto.com Arena, they were without LeBron James, Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber and Adou Thiero. Even with so many key rotational players missing, the Lakers still managed to defeat the in-form Spurs, who opened the season with five straight wins.

Luka Doncic praised the group for how the roster stepped up, coming back from a 12-point deficit.

“Enjoying very much playing with these guys,” Doncic said. “Everybody that steps on the court (despite the injuries) plays the maximum.”

Deandre Ayton played a major role by putting up 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Whereas, Marcus Smart added 17 points, five rebounds and five assists, further helping Luka Doncic maintain his perfect head-to-head record against Victor Wembanyama, improving it to 5-0.
