According to NBA insider Michael Scotto on Wednesday, rival teams have "conducted due diligence" regarding Ja Morant's future with the Memphis Grizzlies. Per Scotto, the Timberwolves are one of the teams that have inquired about Morant. League sources added that Minnesota could be looking for an "upgrade" in its backcourt.

"While Edwards and (Jaden) McDaniels are viewed as young pillars for the Timberwolves, Minnesota’s due diligence on Morant signaled the team’s desire to upgrade at point guard and will continue to be on the agenda leading up to the trade deadline, league sources said," Scotto wrote.

Should Minnesota pursue a trade for Morant, Scotto added, Edwards will be untouchable in discussions, while McDaniels is "viewed as close to untouchable."

Coming into Wednesday, Minnesota is 10-7 and has lost two straight games. Donte DiVicenzo has been the team's starting point guard this season. Last season's starter, veteran guard Mike Conley, is now coming off the bench.

While both have arguably played well this season, forward Julius Randle is the team's assists leader (5.8 per game).

Trading for Morant would give Timberwolves coach Chris Finch another weapon to utilize in a loaded Western Conference. While Morant has struggled this season amid an alleged rift with the Grizzlies, he can be an explosive scorer when healthy.

The Sacramento Kings have also reportedly inquired about Ja Morant

Amid a dismal start this season, the Sacramento Kings have been rumored to be gauging the trade market for their veteran stars. According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto on Wednesday, Sacramento has inquired about Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.

"The Sacramento Kings were among the teams to inquire regarding the availability of Ja Morant and have signaled the franchise will gauge the trade market for Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan," Scotto wrote.

While no deal is imminent, Scotto said the Kings will be monitoring the situation. They are just 5-13 this season and have been rumored to be close to "blowing the roster up."

Morant earns $39.5 million this year, the third season of his five-year, $197.2 million deal. The 26-year-old star will be under contract through the 2027-28 season. In 12 games this season, Morant is averaging 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 7.6 assists.
