After Nico Harrison was dismissed as GM of the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, team owner Patrick Dumont posted an open letter to the Mavs’ fanbase. In the letter, Dumont explained that he approved the decision to fire Harrison because "results don't meet expectations" for the Mavs, who are 3-8 to start the 2025-26 season.Though fans expressed delight over Harrison’s dismissal, some were not pleased with what Dumont said in his open letter."This mf gaslighting Mavs fans," one fan tweeted. "didn’t he green light Lukas trade smh."Stressed Dave Roberts @givemesometoppsLINKthis mf gaslighting Mavs fans 😂 didn’t he green light Lukas trade smhLooneyWiseacre @LooneyWiseacreLINKWhat happened between May 30, 2024 and the start of the 2025-26, Patrick? who gave the final approval for the trade?Fletcher @Duke0fLondonLINKI don’t buy it, Dumont should have fired Nico the second he walked in the door and suggested trading Luka. It goes beyond trading a franchise player, Luka connected with the heart and the soul of Dallas fans. Anyone who knows anything about sport could see that.Anthony @EvilEmpire25LINKPurposely left out anything regarding the Luka tradeSome fans even expressed sympathy for Harrison despite his role in the controversial Luka Doncic trade."Let’s see, Nico Harrison was hired as GM in 2021. Since then, They made two conference finals and a NBA championship finals appearance," one fan pointed out. "Dumont was here one year they traded their best player and are in last place. Maybe someone’s got accountability defined differently than I do."james @The_foundersnetLINKLet’s see, Nico Harrison was hired as GM in 2021. Maybe someone’s got accountability defined differently than Impf @demcowboysfanLINKNico Harrison gave Dallas the best teams we’ve had since 2011. He was a very good GM that made one bad move. He should’ve been given a chance to fix this. He’s the greatest GM we’re ever had. Thank you Nico #MFFLSince Harrison orchestrated the deal that shipped Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, fan reaction has been intense. For months, Mavericks supporters made their voices heard with loud "Fire Nico" chants during games. While the Mavericks floundered in the play-in tournament last season, Doncic and the Lakers finished as the third seed and competed in the first round of the playoffs. With LeBron James out for about a month at the start of the 2025-26 season, Doncic has helped the Lakers get off to an 8-3 start.Viral tweet claims to reveal details about Patrick Dumont's interaction with courtside fanThe night before Harrison's dismissal, Dumont sat courtside during the Mavericks' home game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Notably, he was seen sitting next to a fan wearing a Doncic Lakers jersey.According to a viral tweet by MFFL Nation, Dumont reportedly had a heart-to-heart conversation with the fan."Just spoke with the fan that sat next to Patrick Dumont tonight," the tweet read. "He said that Dumont told him: He felt bad for the Luka trade; what he did wasn’t in the best interest of the franchise; he made a mistake and he’s trying to rectify it; wants to win back the fanbase."If the viral tweet is accurate, Dumont's decision to let go of Harrison could be part of his effort to "rectify" certain moves over the past several months.
