Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed Buddy Hield's benching before Monday's 120-97 blowout win over the Magic. Hield has been out of the rotation for two consecutive games after significantly underperforming this season. He's averaging a career low 7.9 points and 2.5 rebounds on 32.0% 3-point shooting.

The Warriors fell to 13-15 after his last game on Thursday in Phoenix, in which he played 10 minutes, scoring three points and committing two turnovers. Kerr shared his honest thoughts on Hield, admitting that his performances resulted in his decision to bench the veteran 3-point specialist.

"When you’re struggling, it's hard to find a role if you’re a role player," Kerr told reporters. "When you're winning, everybody's in a good spot ... coach has a rotation that stays the same and roles are easier to find. But we're below .500, so roles are gonna change until we can find some momentum."

Hield is in the second year of his $37.2 million contract. He will earn $9.2 million this season. His contract is partially guaranteed over the next two seasons. The Warriors have leverage to trade him, as it essentially could be close to an expiring deal.

His contract can be included in a larger trade for an impact player, along with Jonathan Kuminga's $22.5 million salary. With Hield out of a role on the Warriors and other players in his position outperforming him, it seems a likely option at this point.

Warriors Trade Rumors: Golden State considered "buyers" with four trade candidates reported

The Golden State Warriors are among the "buyers" at the trade deadline. They are reportedly looking to bolster their frontcourt. Four realistic targets have been linked with the Warriors, including Trey Murphy III, Nic Claxton, Daniel Gafford and Robert Williams III.

All players fill a need for Golden State. Murphy would be the third perimeter scorer behind Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler. The Warriors currently don't have a reliable option in that role. Meanwhile, one of Claxton, Gafford and Williams can help Golden State address its lack of athleticism at the center spot, rim protection, paint scoring and rebounding.

With a player like Jonathan Kuminga available for trade and potentially Brandin Podziemski, all these deals could be attainable. The stumbling block for the Warriors could be the inclusion of draft capital.

They have three picks, but with an aging core, retaining those would be essential to ensure Golden State isn't in a hole over the next few years.
