NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith chimed in on Chris Paul's ugly divorce with the LA Clippers. News broke on Wednesday that the 12-time NBA All-Star is no longer part of the team.Paul's departure from LA was discussed on Wednesday's edition of "First Take." The 40-year-old guard was reportedly sent home by the Clippers from Atlanta, where the team is set to face the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.Smith threw shots at Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank for how they handled the situation. Smith said the franchise disrespected the veteran guard, who he thinks is a future Hall of Famer."How the hell do you do this to Chris Paul?" Smith said. "This is a future Hall of Famer, who came there for the last year of his career. ... You sent him home because he looked into your face and told you that the organization is being run like trash right now. ... The Clippers look like hot garbage."You make news because you're sending home a 12-time All-Star, who is a consummate professional, known for his professionalism, known for holding others accountable. ... He doesn't deserve this. At least come home and at least negotiate a buyout."To sit up there and send him home like he's some malcontent running the streets not knowing how to act, like he's a cancer to this team. Lawrence Frank is more of a cancer to the team than him. ... To send him home like that, to disrespect him like that, no."In a statement to ESPN following the news, Frank said, "The team will work with him on the next step of his career." NBA insider Shams Charania noted that Paul's leadership style clashed with the team, leading to him and Clippers coach Ty Lue not speaking "for several weeks."Paul appeared in just 16 games in his second stint with LA, averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 assists in 14.3 minutes per game.Sports analyst Marcus Spears questions the Clippers' 'odd' decision on parting ways with Chris PaulIn the same episode of "First Take" on Wednesday, sports analyst Marcus "Swagu" Spears joined the discussion about the LA Clippers parting ways with Chris Paul."One of the greatest point guards to ever play the game." Spears said (Timestamp: 0:30). "When it comes to this particular situation, I just don't know how you can justify. ... It begs the question, 'What the hell happened for y'all to handle this this way?'"But with that being said, I can't see anything that bad happening where it's almost like you dismiss him from the team. That, to me, is quite odd."The Clippers have struggled to start this season. Coming into Wednesday, they have lost five straight games and 14 of their last 16 games. They have the second-worst record in the Western Conference at 5-16.Chris Paul signed a one-year, $3.6 million deal with LA this offseason. To offload the veteran guard, the Clippers could elect to find a trade partner, waive him or agree to a contract buyout.
