Steph Curry talked to the media after the Golden State Warriors’ practice on Thursday. Curry, who will return from a multi-game absence to play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, responded to a few questions about teammate Jonathan Kuminga.Curry replied when asked about what he could tell the struggling forward:“The hardest part is whether it’s going well or not, not losing your spirit. … We still have high hopes he’ll impact our team. … You can’t lose your spirit if things aren’t going your way. You’re a game or two away from it coming right back to you. If you check out or are not engaged, you might miss your moment.”On Sunday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr benched Jonathan Kuminga against the Chicago Bulls. Even without Steph Curry and Draymond Green, Kuminga couldn't see any action. Although healthy, Kerr kept him on the sidelines while Gui Santos and Pat Spencer played a key role in the Dubs’ 123-91 win. After the game, Kuminga told reporters that he wasn’t sure how long he would be benched. He added that if the Dubs keep winning, he doesn’t “see the point of switching anything.”On Thursday, before Steph Curry spoke to reporters, Steve Kerr told the media:“It’s the combinations, the fit. All that stuff has been going on for a few years. We know that, and I’m not going to shy away from that. I think it’s pretty obvious.”Kerr added that his “desire” is for Kuminga to be “the best player he can possibly be.” The coach admitted that he would want that to happen whether it takes place in Golden State or “elsewhere.”Steph Curry gave Jonathan Kuminga the same advice last seasonOn April 13, Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors hosted the LA Clippers in a game with playoff consequences. The 124-119 loss to the Clippers dropped the Dubs to the play-in tournament. A win would have guaranteed them a spot in the postseason. While Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green logged major minutes, Steve Kerr benched a healthy Jonathan Kuminga. After the game, the two-time MVP sent a message to his teammate:“Just to be ready. The test of a young player in this league, especially with our team, you never know when your moment will be there. … Don't let noise outside of the locker room, the tension that might come from it, distract you from your ability to make an impact when your number is called."Jonathan Kuminga worked on his shot after the loss to the Clippers, hoping to play against the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in tournament. Again, Kerr kept Kuminga out, a trend that would continue in the playoffs.
