He was the only player alongside Keldon Johnson keeping San Antonio in the game as they trailed by 18 heading into the break (72-50).

The No. 2 pick exited the game midway through the second quarter and never returned. The Spurs officially sidelined Harper after the halftime whistle. He sustained the injury with five minutes left after trying to guard Nick Richards under the basket.

Harper immediately grabbed his calf. It seemed as if it was related to his landing, but the situation remains unclear for now.

Harper reportedly exited the arena in a walking boot and crutches, per ESPN's Michael C. Wright.

Meanwhile, the Spurs couldn't recover and lost their first game 130-118 to the Suns after a five-game winning streak. Victor Wembanyama had a cold outing, including a scoreless opening quarter. He picked up three fouls before the half and his fourth in the third.

Four minutes into the final quarter, MVP favorite Wembanyama only had four points on 2 of 10 shots. He finished with nine points, nine rebounds, two assists and four blocks. He ended the night shooting 4 of 14.

Dylan Harper's presence could have eased things. He was on course for a career-high night at his scoring rate. On the season, Harper averaged 14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists, shooting 48.2%, including 35.7% from 3, entering this clash.

Dylan Harper's backcourt partner speculates on his status for Lakers game

Dylan Harper's backcourt running mate, Stephon Castle, speculated that the Spurs rookie will play on Wednesday against the LA Lakers. Speaking to reporters after Sunday's loss, Castle, who had no significant updates on Harper's injury, said (via Spurs' beat writer Jeff Garcia):

"I still don't know what happened to him either, so I mean, as far as I know, he's playing Wednesday. ... I don't really know how to answer that."

Calf injuries can be tricky to assess. Dylan Harper reportedly leaving the arena in a walking boot and crutches only makes things worse for the Spurs rookie. He might miss extended time, considering it was a non-contact injury and could be strain.
