The San Antonio Spurs have given a return date for the injured star, De'Aaron Fox, on Friday. The Spurs started the 2025-26 NBA season without their main ball handler due to a hamstring injury. Despite not having their primary facilitator, the team has performed well.ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Friday that Fox will make his season debut on Saturday. San Antonio will face the New Orleans Pelicans at home, following their contest against the Houston Rockets tonight.Charania said in his report that Fox has ramped up his return this week. In his absence, second-year guard Stephon Castle has stepped up as the starting point guard. The Spurs have relied on the young guard, who has averaged 19.4 points, six rebounds and 5.7 assists in the first seven games of the year. The Spurs have a number of players on the injury report ahead of Friday's game against the Rockets. Aside from Fox, the team is missing backcourt player Dylan Harper with a calf injury. Due to an ankle problem, Luke Kornet is listed as out. Kelly Olynyk and Jeremy Sochan are both listed as questionable due to heel and wrist injuries, respectively.Without Fox, the Spurs have managed to have a strong start to their season with a 5-2 record. That's all thanks to the efforts of star Victor Wembanyama. The Frenchman has averaged 25.6 points, 12.9 rebounds and 4.1 blocks. His strong start has given the young team the much-needed boost to win.Fans are looking forward to seeing De'Aaron Fox in action with Wemby for the first time this season.Kendrick Perkins believes De'Aaron Fox will help fix Victor Wembanyama's recent problemsAlthough Wemby had an excellent start to the year, he hasn't played that well over the past two games. On Sunday's 130-118 loss to the Phoenix Suns, the one-time All-Star finished with nine points on 4-for-14 shooting from the field. He followed that up with a 19-point game on 5-for-14 shooting in a 118-116 loss to the LA Lakers on Wednesday.Amid his struggles, former NBA player Kendrick Perkins said having De'Aaron Fox back on the floor will help Wembanyama get over his struggles. Perkins talked about the Spurs' recent struggles on Thursday's episode of "NBA Today."“Teams are going to trap him. All great bigs have gone through this and had to learn,” Perkins said (Timestamp: 9:55) “De’Aaron Fox is going to help him in this category when he returns.”Perkins said having a guard like De'Aaron Fox will remove some weight off of Wembanyama's shoulders. With the lefty guard on the sidelines, the 7-foot-4 center has taken over most of the responsibility, including running the offense. It'll be such a relief for the Spurs to have Fox and Wemby on the floor on Saturday.
