The San Antonio Spurs and LA Lakers locked horns in a high-voltage NBA Cup quarterfinal game at the Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday. The Lakers arrived for the knockout game after dominating the group stage and winning all four games. Meanwhile, the Spurs only suffered one defeat in the group stage, which came against the Lakers.The Lakers stuck to their usual starting lineup of Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, LeBron James, Rui Hachimura and Deandre Ayton. On the contrary, with Victor Wembanyama still out, the Spurs' starting five featured De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes and Luke Kornet.LeBron James' energy was infectious in the early stages of the opening quarter and dropped four points. San Antonio's bench was clicking on all cylinders, contributing 27 points in the first 15 minutes of the game. The visitors threatened to pull away with a 20-point lead at one point, but the Lakers kept the deficit down to 12 points at halftime, trailing 70-58 at the break.The Lakers looked lifeless after the break and fell behind by 22 points. Marcus Smart knocked down three 3-pointers to bring the deficit down to 14 points before the Spurs pushed their lead to 17 points and led 104-87 after three quarters.The Lakers made a late run and got the deficit down to single digits.
