The Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons lock horns in a big-ticket NBA Cup game on Friday. The Sixers are without their superstar, Joel Embiid, for the third consecutive game, with the 7-foot center dealing with a right knee injury.

The franchise got encouraging news on Embiid after the former MVP underwent fresh scans on his troublesome knee. The result revealed no structural damage, leaving the Sixers superstar's status day-to-day moving forward.

Meanwhile, concerns grew about V.J. Edgecombe after the Sixers rookie was listed as "questionable" due to back spasms. The athletic guard has played in every game this season, but after a blistering start to his NBA career, Edgecombe’s numbers have sharply declined over the last five outings.

The wait continues for Paul George's season debut, with the veteran forward ruled out of Friday's game with a left knee injury. Speaking to reporters after Thursday's practice, Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse asserted that George is currently focused on rebuilding his strength to reduce the possibility of re-injury.

Jared McCain is sidelined from the Pistons game owing to G League duties. Coach Nurse stated that McCain was assigned to the G League to get some reps under his belt. Meanwhile, Dominick Barlow was cleared to make his comeback after missing nine consecutive games owing to an elbow laceration.

Without Joel Embiid and other important pieces, the Sixers will face a daunting challenge against the high-flying Pistons. Detroit is sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with a 10-2 record and is currently on an eight-game winning streak.
