Patrick Mahomes Predicted to Rebound Like Steph Curry as Ex-Warriors Star Torches Chiefs Panic

Matt Barnes predicted Patrick Mahomes to have a rebound like Steph Curry amid the Chiefs star's ongoing slump. On Wednesday's episode of "All the Smoke" podcast, the former Warriors star torched the panic surrounding the Chiefs and expressed belief in Mahomes' ability.

Barnes agreed that Patrick Mahomes has slowed down because of injuries. However, he said that the Chiefs' star's greatness comes from his technical skills rather than his athleticism.

Later, he compared the Chiefs' star quarterback and the Warriors' superstar by tracking their career trajectories and the impact they have had on their respective sport. Barnes said that both Steph Curry and Patrick Mahomes were not looked at as franchise players at the beginning of their careers, but they have changed their respective games. (Timestamp: 24:08)

"Once they were able to get their feet wet, they both have been taking the game to depths and levels that we have never seen," Barnes said. "Steph being able to shoot and Mahomes being able to throw that thing around the football field. There isn't a throw he cannot make. Steph has four titles, Mahomes has three titles."

Later, Barnes asked Vernon Maxwell for his thoughts on the Chiefs' down year. Maxwell said that Mahomes did not look like his prime self as his age was catching up to him. However, the two-time NBA champion flamed Travis Kelce more for his slump.

After Maxwell's segment, Barnes expressed his belief in the Chiefs star's ability to make a comeback.

"This is a down year for us, but what I will say is I feel like, godwilling , staying injury-free, I feel like Mahomes has another good 10 years to play."

The former Warriors star said that the league had caught up to Patrick Mahomes, but he would still choose the Chiefs' star quarterback over other QBs in the league.

To end the NFL segment of the episode, Barnes and Maxwell exchanged opinions on Travis Kelce. Maxwell said that Kansas needed to get rid of Kelce.

"What I think of Kelce is that the writing's on the wall," Barnes said. "Kelce will be a top-five tight end of all time. It'll be interesting to see what they do with this team."

The Chiefs (6-7) are teh currently the third-place team in the AFC West standings.
