The Lakers had been on a seven-game winning streak before losing Monday’s game to Phoenix. Los Angeles (15-5) is second in the Western Conference, four-and-a-half games behind the OKC Thunder (21-1) in first.

LeBron James is averaging career lows for the LA Lakers this season

LeBron James, who made his 2025-26 season debut in mid-November, has been having a rough go. James missed the season opener as he was suffering from sciatica on his right side. Since returning, he has played five games, averaging 15.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game.

These are the lowest averages of James’ 23-season-long career. The drop-off in his numbers has led fans to wonder if this could be the NBA legend’s final season. However, others argue that the sample size is too small to count James out just yet.

With James taking somewhat of a backseat in the offense, the Lakers have relied on Luka Doncic. He is averaging 35.1 ppg, 9.2 apg and 8.7 rpg. Austin Reaves has also been solid, recording 28.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 6.8 apg. For the first time in his career, LeBron James is not the standout star on his team.

With their seven-game win streak snapped, the Lakers will face the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday.
