On the other hand, the Mavericks are off to a rocky start with a record of 1-2 heading into Monday's game. They were bamboozled by Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in their season opener and lost to the Washington Wizards the following game. They earned their first win of the season on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.

The OKC Thunder were off to the races to start the game, building an 11-2 lead before the Dallas Mavericks came alive midway through the first quarter and kept things close. It was the same story in the second period, but the defending champs pulled away in the third quarter.

The Thunder went up by as much as 22 points, and things appeared to be over before the Mavericks staged a comeback in the fourth quarter. The Mavs managed to pull within a point with less than a minute left.

With the Thunder up 97-94, D'Angelo Russell missed a game-tying shot with 25.3 seconds left. It turned into a free-throw game, with the visitors escaping with the win.
