Harrison believed in the 'defense wins championships' mantra and felt that acquiring Davis would make the Mavericks favorites for the title. According to Tim MacMahon, he blamed Luka Doncic's lack of defense for the Mavs' loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2023-24 NBA Finals.

However, that move backfired spectacularly and the Mavericks missed the playoffs. Their woes continued at the start of the new season and with fans losing patience, Patrick Dumont decided to pull the plug.

"This decision reflects our continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organization," said Dumont. "One that delivers for our players, our partners and most importantly, our fans."

The Mavericks are 5-14 and sit 13th in the West.
