The Nike Ja 3 design pays tribute to Morant’s journey. It features a distinct outsole pattern with repeated “Ja” logos, which is inspired by his bulldog-crossover move.

Ja Morant debuted the Nike Ja 3 last spring in the Western Conference Playoffs. He spent the summer promoting it while on his first-ever world tour with Nike.

He gave his input to Nike while the shoe was still in production.

“I told the Nike design team I needed something that talks before I even lace it up,” Morant said. “I wanted my third signature shoe to feel like my game and my personality. I told them, ‘Don’t be scared. Push it. Make it rugged, make it different."

Fans can get the shoe at a retail price of around US$125 (adult sizes) in many cases. The “Scratch 3.0” colorway was highlighted as a must-have for fans of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Ja Morant denies wanting to be face of the league

Ja Morant spoke to “The Athletic” on Monday before the Grizzlies’ matchup against the Golden State Warriors. He disclosed that he never wants to be the face of the league but rather wants to enjoy hooping.

“There’s a lot that comes with that,” he said. “I play basketball for the love of the game, not to be the face of the NBA. Obviously, I hear that a lot. I don’t put no pressure on it. I just go out and just play my game.”

The league is searching for who will take the mantle from the likes of LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant when they decide to retire. Morant and Anthony Edwards have been pipped to be the ones to shoulder the responsibility of leading the league post-James, Curry and Durant.

This season he is averaging 22.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists for the Grizzlies who are 2-2 for the season.
