DiVincenzo spent the 2023-24 season with the Knicks and was reunited with his Villanova Wildcats teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. The team was nicknamed "Nova Knicks" during the trio's brief stint together in New York.

According to ClutchPoints' Kris Pursiainen on Friday, New York has engaged the Minnesota Timberwolves in trade conversations about DiVincenzo. Another player that the Knicks are reportedly eyeing is New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado.

"League sources tell ClutchPoints that the Knicks have had exploratory discussions with two Western Conference teams about potential trades, with New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo at the center of various proposals," Pursiainen wrote.

During the 2024 offseason, DiVincenzo was traded to Minnesota as part of the blockbuster package for five-time NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns.

DiVincenzo, who won an NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021, has been the Timberwolves' starting point guard after veteran Mike Conley moved to the bench this season. Through 24 games, he is averaging 13.2 points and 3.7 assists on 41.4% shooting, including 38.1% from 3-point range.

Pundits said that the NBA trade season unofficially begins on Monday, as many players who signed offseason contracts will no longer have trade restrictions. For the Knicks, Jordan Clarkson, Landry Shamet and Guerschon Yabusele will be eligible to be traded.

The Knicks' reported interest in Donte DiVincenzo dates back to last season

In the same article on Friday, ClutchPoints' Kris Pursiainen said the New York Knicks had "internal discussions" about potentially bringing back Donte DiVincenzo in the past offseason. The 6-foot-4 guard had a career year during his stint with New York, setting up franchise records for 3-pointers made in a single game (11) and a season (283).

DiVincenzo are rumored to be on the trading block as the Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly seeking an upgrade on their backcourt. In New York, the 28-year-old guard could thrive in the faster-paced offense under Mike Brown and add another 3-point shooting threat.

In addition, DiVincenzo's familiarity with several of the Knicks players could strengthen the team's chemistry. In addition, another Villanova product, Mikal Bridges, is part of the team.

DiVincenzo, Bridges, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart were all part of the 2016-17 Wildcats. The quartet's Villanova connection could prove crucial in what the Knicks hope will be a deep postseason run.
