Despite the Dallas Mavericks' dismal start this season, the team has reportedly no plans of making star guard Kyrie Irving available in trade talks. On Wednesday's "Howdy Partners," NBA insider Tim MacMahon discussed the future of Irving in Dallas, saying that the team would only trade him should he ask for it. Irving, who is in the first season of his three-year, $118 million contract, per Spotrac, is currently rehabbing his ACL injury."What I would tell you about Kyrie is the Mavericks do not want to trade him," MacMahon said. "The only way I think that Kyrie Irving would get traded is if he went to the Mavericks and asked for that to happen. And I don’t have any information that points in that direction."There have been rumors recently that Dallas will make significant roster changes. This comes amid changes in the front office, as the Mavericks dismissed general manager Nico Harrison. They have also reportedly welcomed back minority owner Mark Cuban, who will have a hand in roster decisions moving forward.Irving tore his ACL in March, and it remains to be seen if the nine-time NBA All-Star could make a return this season. The Mavericks are off to a 5-14 start, and coming into Thursday, they have lost two straight games. They need all the help they can get if they want to make the playoffs in a competitive Western Conference.Insider says Mavericks star Anthony Davis has 'real possibility' of being tradedIn the same podcast episode on Wednesday, ESPN's Tim MacMahon doubled down on his previous report that the Dallas Mavericks will explore trades for Anthony Davis. The 10-time NBA All-Star has only played in five games this season, and coming into Thursday, has missed 14 straight games due to a calf strain."Trading AD is a real possibility, and I would even say likelihood, this season," MacMahon said. "Trading Kyrie (Irving) is not something that’s on the Mavericks’ priority list, or it’s just straight up not something that they are interested in doing right now."Davis has returned to practice this week and is expected to make his return in either Friday's game against the LA Lakers or on Saturday versus the LA Clippers.Davis's injury is arguably one of the reasons that Dallas has struggled this season. 2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg has been forced to play out of position and has played poorly, based on his standards.MacMahon added that while the Mavericks intend to build around Flagg, they do not want to part ways with some of their veteran stars.
