LA Lakers forward LeBron James orchestrated the game-winning play on Thursday against the Toronto Raptors. The four-time MVP gave up a shot to feed Rui Hachimura, who sank the 3-pointer that pushed the Lakers to a 123-120 win. James’ streak of 1,297 double-digit scoring games ended, but his team eked out a victory.

The last time LeBron James failed to break the 10-point barrier, Lakers coach JJ Redick was still in his rookie season with the Orlando Magic. Raptors rookie Collin Murray-Boyles was roughly 2 years old. James had eight points in 44 minutes against the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 5, 2007.

In the final play against the Raptors, Redick designed a play for Austin Reaves, who had 44 points. Toronto doubled-teamed AR15, forcing him to give up the ball to James.

The four-time MVP immediately drove into the paint, where he had multiple options. He could have pulled up for a jumper, but kicked the ball to a wide-open Rui Hachimura, who nailed the game-winning triple. Raptors star Brandon Ingram, who had to check Deandre Ayton, was a little too late to bother Hachimura’s attempt.

LeBron James said he never hesitated to make right play against Raptors

After the game, LeBron James inevitably answered questions about the game-winning play. He responded when asked to go through the sequence that led to Rui Hachimura’s triple:

“Just playing the game the right way. … I’ve done it my whole career. There was not even one second of guessing that. Once they doubled AR (Reaves), and the ball got swung to me, I know it’s a numbers game. We got a four-on-three advantage.”

When pressed if he had any feelings after the streak ended, James emphatically answered:

“None! We won!”

LeBron James added that he missed the Lakers’ first 14 games, and he’s “figuring out” his rhythm. He remains confident that he will regain his shooting touch to help carry the scoring load.
