The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly considering an Anthony Davis trade in February. According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, the franchise will explore the 10-time NBA All-Star's market.

The Mavericks have dropped to 4-11 in Davis' first full season. He has missed 10 games due to a calf strain and will miss more as he remains sidelined for at least a week.

The Mavericks have no timetable available on Kyrie Irving's return, either. He is recovering from an ACL injury. With both stars near their mid-30s and injury-prone, the Mavericks have key roster turnover decisions to make, beginning with their futures.

Davis has been mentioned as a popular trade candidate since the Mavericks dismissed general manager Nico Harrison on Nov. 11. He was responsible for replacing former franchise centerpiece Luka Doncic with Davis, which ultimately led to Harrison's firing nine months after the infamous trade.

Here's what MacMahon wrote on Wednesday about the latest developments around Davis' future:

"In the aftermath, Dumont and his new basketball cabinet, which once again includes former majority owner Mark Cuban, are plotting to pivot to the future with 18-year-old Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 pick delivered to Dallas by unprecedented lottery luck, gifting the new ownership group a second chance to build a sustainable contender around a generational talent.

"Multiple team sources said the Mavs, who are 4-11 and outside the playoff picture in the West, will also explore the trade market for Davis, the 10-time All-Star big man who was the headliner in the return of the Luka Doncic deal, as part of that process before this season's deadline."

The Mavericks lucked into winning the lottery and drafting a widely perceived generational talent in Cooper Flagg with their No.1 pick. They also have a selection in the stacked 2026 NBA draft, so they could add another young piece alongside Flagg and rebuild a new core.

The Mavericks don't have control of their picks from 2027 to 2030. Trading Anthony Davis can help them secure draft capital in those years to add more prospects around Flagg.

Mavericks and Anthony Davis' agents will work closely on trade matters

The Mavericks won't trade Anthony Davis without collaboration with his agency. According to a Nov. 12 report by insider Marc Stein, the Mavericks will decide with Davis' agency on whether to pursue a trade involving the 10-time All-Star before the deadline.

Davis is making $54.1 million, so any in-season trade would require time to come to fruition. Despite his injury woes, the 32-year-old remains an All-Star-caliber talent, so there could be decent interest around the market for his services.

For now, the Mavericks will hope Davis can stay healthy for a decent stretch and play to his potential. That will give them clarity on whether pursuing a trade is in their best interests. Another positive outcome from his playing would be Davis' value increasing, leading to a better return for the Mavericks.
