The LA Lakers were seen as the biggest beneficiary in what has been remembered as the biggest mistake of a franchise, as they got a new franchise player in Luka Doncic after the Dallas Mavericks traded him for a package headlined by Anthony Davis last February.

An hour after the Mavericks fired their general manager Nico Harrison, who gave the green light on the Doncic trade to the Lakers, the Purple and Gold squad posted one of Doncic's highlights in their latest win against the Charlotte Hornets.

"THREW IT DOWN 💥," the Lakers' official social media pages wrote to caption Doncic's dunk against the Hornets.

Against the Hornets, a day before the Mavericks fired Harrison, Doncic put up 38 points, six rebounds, and seven assists to lead the Lakers to a 121-111 win.

Doncic has been explosive to start the season, averaging 37.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game, while leading the LeBron James-less Lakers to an 8-3 start.

The Lakers have also won five of their last six games to rise to the fourth-best record in the Western Conference.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are currently 3-8 as Davis has only played five games so far this season due to a calf strain. The team sits in the 14th spot in the West.

In the five games Davis played so far this season, he averaged 20.8 points and 10.2 rebounds, but the Mavericks continued to struggle.

Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont admits the mistake of trading Luka Doncic to a Dallas fan

Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont seemed to have admitted the franchise's mistake to a Dallas fan sitting alongside him on the sidelines. According to the teenage fan, Dumont told him that it was a mistake trading the former franchise star to the Lakers.

"When I was on the way out, I was talking smack to Patrick (Dumont) and ended up flipping him off on my way out of the game," he said in an interview with The Dallas Morning News. "My dad saw me flip Patrick off and was like, ‘That’s not OK. The next time you’re at a game, you have to apologize to Patrick.‘"

"He said he was trying to do what’s best for the organization. And ‘sometimes you have good intentions and you make mistakes.’ We all do it."

The Mavericks seemed to have been paying the price since trading Doncic as they missed last season's playoffs before starting this year with an underwhelming mark, resulting in Nico Harrison's firing.
