The LA Lakers have welcomed Drew Timme, their newest member this season. The team made the announcement on Tuesday, and Timme is expected to have playing time with Deandre Ayton out with a knee contusion. In his first practice session with the Lakers, the big man was asked about his time with LeBron James in the G League.

Before making his debut for the 2025-26 season, James practiced with the South Bay Lakers. This was to get the four-time champion back into rhythm before playing in the NBA.

Timme was interviewed for the first time as a member of the Lakers. He was asked what it was like to practice with James in the G League.

“It was pretty crazy, man. Like, I mean, that’s the GOAT,” Timme said. “To be able to share the court with him. Especially, being a G League team. That’s so outside of the normal of anything. It was crazy."

The former Gonzaga big man was asked if he was on James' team during South Bay's practice runs.

“I was on his team. I was just trying to get him the ball on his spots. Whatever he needed me to do, I’ll try and do.”

Drew Timme is expected to play his first game with the Lakers on Tuesday against the LA Clippers. However, Timme will only be available for a maximum of 40 games, ESPN's Bobby Marks posted on X.

"The Lakers will be allowed to put Timme in the active roster for 40 games," Marks reported.

Before Timme was signed, the Lakers had to waive center Christian Koloko. The recently released big man played only two games for the organization this season.

How well did Drew Timme play last season?

Playing for the Lakers isn't Drew Timme's first stint in the NBA. Last season, he was with the Brooklyn Nets after signing a multi-year contract. However, Timme appeared in only nine games.

During that stretch, he averaged 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Timme started his NBA career with a double-double for the Nets. He had 11 points and 10 rebounds against the Clippers.

He followed it up with a 19-point performance in a 115-112 win over the Washington Wizards. The game against the Wizards was his best scoring performance. Timme added six rebounds and three assists in his stat sheet.

Throughout his tenure with the Nets, he played seven games in which he scored in double figures. Timme's rebounding was also a significant help to the team. Unfortunately for the big man, he was waived before the start of the 2025-26 season.
