NBA fans made some grim predictions for the LA Lakers after they lost Austin Reaves to injury. On Friday, the team announced that the star guard has suffered a mild calf strain and will be re-evaluated in one week.
Reaves is putting up All-Star numbers this season, averaging 27.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game, shooting 50.3%. He has played a big role in the Lakers (17-7) holding fourth place in the Western Conference.
In light of Reaves’ injury, NBA fans on X suggested that the Lakers' season is now “over.” Some fans criticized JJ Redick, claiming the coach had been overplaying him.
“Lakers done for this season,” one fan wrote.

Before being sidelined, Austin Reaves had a couple of rough nights. He finished with 11 points on 3-for-16 shooting against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday and 16 points on 6-for-16 shooting against the Spurs on Wednesday.
He will miss Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, Thursday’s game against the Utah Jazz and potentially more depending on the severity of the injury.
Lakers coach JJ Redick isn’t concerned about Austin Reaves’ rough stretch
Austin Reaves had just hit the roughest stretch of his campaign before being ruled out with a calf injury. When he struggles, the Lakers understandably are far from their best. However, JJ Redick isn’t concerned and believes Reaves will turn the situation around.
“Look, the reality is the guy’s carried us for six weeks, and that takes a toll on you,” Redick said after Wednesday’s game. “And he kept fighting, and I appreciate that, but he’s going to have a lot more great nights than frustrating nights.”
With Reaves out, Luka Doncic is likely to carry an even bigger load for Los Angeles. He is averaging 25.0 ppg, 9.0 apg and 9.0 rpg this season. LeBron James will also be more involved in the proceedings. He has taken a backseat to Reaves and Doncic this season, averaging 16.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 7.6 apg.
