The LA Lakers and Atlanta Hawks locked horns in an interconference regular-season game at the State Farm Arena on Saturday. The Lakers arrived in Atlanta riding a five-game winning streak and sitting pretty in the second spot in the Western Conference standings. Hawks entered the game with a 4-5 record, sitting in ninth place in the East.

The Lakers stuck with the same starting lineup from previous games: Luka Doncic, Jake LaRavia, Marcus Smart, Rui Hachimura and Deandre Ayton. Meanwhile, the Hawks were quite shorthanded, with four of their key players sidelined. The hosts fielded a starting lineup of Zaccharie Risacher, Mouhamed Gueye, Onyeka Okongwu, Dyson Daniels and Keaton Wallace.

The shorthanded Hawks landed the first punch and took a 17-10 lead by making seven of their 10 field goal attempts. Mouhamed Gueye was on a heater as he scored 11 quick points on 4-of-4 shooting. Luka Doncic was in foul trouble early for the Lakers after he picked up his second foul midway through the first quarter.

Despite the foul trouble, Doncic played the entire opening period and dropped 12 points to keep the Lakers within striking distance. The Hawks led 37-29 heading into the second quarter.

The Lakers delivered their worst half of basketball this season. They looked completely out of sorts on both ends of the floor. Atlanta had 21 assists on 26 made field goals in the opening half and sliced up the Lakers' defense. The hosts also punished the Lakers on turnovers, scoring 19 points off 10 turnovers. As a result, the Hawks led 68-54 at halftime.

The Hawks shut the door on any possibility of a Lakers comeback with a sizzling third-quarter display. The Lakers were blown away by the league's 24th-ranked offense that played on the second night of a back-to-back. Doncic failed to score even a single point in the third quarter as the Lakers trailed 98-72 heading into the final period.

The Hawks finished the job in the final quarter without breaking a sweat. The Lakers endured their first humbling defeat of the season, falling 122–102 after trailing wire to wire. The Purple and Gold's five-game win streak was snapped as JJ Redick's team dropped to fourth place on the standings..
