The LA Lakers begin their five-game road trip on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks in the absence of stars LeBron James and Austin Reaves. James has yet to appear this season. He's out with sciatica and won't play during this trip.

However, on Friday, JJ Redick issued a massive update regarding the four-time MVP's recovery status. James has worked out one-on-one with the Lakers coaches after he was cleared for contact basketball activities.

While he won't travel with the team, Redick said James could spend time with the South Bay Lakers (LA's G League team).

Meanwhile, Austin Reaves will miss a third straight game against Atlanta. The breakout star has dealt with a groin issue this past week. The Lakers reported the injury first on Monday before the back-to-back contest against Portland, which they won 123-115 without Reaves, James and Luka Doncic.

Initially, it seemed like a precaution to hold Reaves out, but the Lakers listed Reaves on the injury report again on Wednesday against the Spurs. He was questionable and was ruled out before tip off. The Lakers have already declared Reaves as "out" for Saturday's clash, raising concerns around his health.

The injury report states it's a groin strain. Before Friday, the Lakers reported it as groin soreness.

Meanwhile, Adou Thiero and Gabe Vincent will also remain on the sidelines. Rookie Thiero has yet to make his debut as he's recovering from knee surgery. Thiero has traveled with the Lakers to Atlanta, but there's no update on his return.

Vincent has been out since Oct. 27 due to an ankle injury he suffered on Oct. 26 against the Kings. At the time, the Lakers reported that his return could take two to four weeks.

On a more positive note, the LA Lakers could see Maxi Kleber make his season debut. The forward suffered an abdominal strain before opening night on Oct. 21 and has been out since. Kleber is questionable to face the Hawks and will likely be a game time decision.
