Klay Thompson's second season with the Dallas Mavericks has seen some of the worst stretches in his Hall of Fame-worthy career so far. Considering his struggles this season, Thompson remained defiant in a Mavericks uniform as he waits for the time when the team is finally freed from injuries.

Coming off a 123-114 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, Thompson said:

"It's not fun. I’m just praying for a day, while I’m in this Mavericks uniform, that we can be whole," he said. "It's hard, because we've been struck by injury bugs the whole time I've been here, and I just can't wait for the day we're whole. It's going to be such a pleasant sight to see."

According to Thompson, his slow start will not deter him from fulfilling his role on the court and contributing to the team's success.

"That's not going to deter me from keep shooting and being my best, putting my best effort forward," he said.

Thompson is averaging career-low numbers of 8.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game on 32.0% shooting, making him a candidate for midseason trades this year.

His 3-point shooting has also dropped significantly from his heyday in Golden State, now making 28.9% of his shots from long range on nearly seven attempts per game.

His best game came against the Suns, where he put up a season-high 19 points built on six made threes.

The Mavericks lost six of their last seven games this season to fall to 3-9, good for 14th place in the Western Conference.

Klay Thompson hypes up his injured teammates as he remains hopeful for healthy Mavericks

Klay Thompson hyped up his injured teammates on Michael Cooper's podcast, "Showtime with Michael Cooper," where he also expressed belief in the Mavericks' potential when they are healthy.

"(Anthony Davis), when he's healthy ... is the best power forward, maybe of my generation. ... I think we personally have the best front court in the NBA when we're healthy," Thompson said. "We have so much depth. ... And then getting a guy like (D'Angelo Russell) and having guard depth. I'm just really excited.”

Thompson is the winningest player on the Mavericks roster, winning four NBA championships with the Warriors, alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

With his struggles this season amid the Mavericks' slump, Thompson is believed to have bigger responsibilities to steady the ship until the team gets off its injury bug this season.
