DeMar DeRozan was clearly unhappy with the officials after Lakers guard Austin Reaves marched to the free-throw line 22 times amid his 51-point outing on Sunday against the Kings. DeRozan, who once scaled the 22 free-throw attempt feat on April 11, 2022, against the Celtics for a 46-point game, said Reaves hurt Sacramento most with his free throws.DeRozan began his post-game media availability by showing his disbelief in the Lakers' collective free-throw disparity, as they had 46, while Sacramento had 18. The 17-year vet said he had never seen anything like that in his career."No, it's crazy," DeRozan said. "18, right? Yeah, we had to beg for most of those."DeRozan said it was "deflating" to see how the game got called. He believed the Kings didn't get the same calls the Lakers got during the game. DeRozan said it influenced their rhythm, with players getting in foul trouble at different junctures. The six-time NBA All-Star then addressed Reaves' free throws after a report asked where the Lakers guard hurt his team the most."The free throw line," DeRozan said, laughing and shaking his head. "22 free throws for him. Free throws ... free throws," he said before walking out of the presser. It's fair to see why DeMar DeRozan, who is making $24.8 million this season, may have reservations about the officiating, as it can be decisive. However, Austin Reaves impacted the game beyond just free throws. He made 54.5% of his 22 field goals and went 6-for-10 from the 3-point line. Reaves also had 11 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. The Kings didn't have the defensive presence to stop him at the perimeter. Reaves got to his spots at will and exposed the Kings' weak interior defense. It was always going to be a tough ask for Sacramento to limit the dynamic guard's drives and that was one of the primary reasons why he went to the line 22 times. Here's a breakdown of all of Austin Reaves' free throw attempts during the game, which explains why this was more on the Kings than the officials themselves:DeMar DeRozan's co-star disagrees with officiating blame after Austin Reaves' 51-point game downs Kings While DeMar DeRozan vehemently complained about the officiating and blamed it for the Kings' 127-120 loss to the Luka Doncic and LeBron James-less Lakers, his co-star Zach LaVine held the team accountable. LaVine pointed out the Kings were in the game despite the free-throw disparity and could have won it, refusing to blame the referees."We still had a real opportunity to win that game regardless of free throws, so I don’t ever wanna put it on that," he said (via NBA reporter Brenden Nunes).Brenden Nunes @BrendenNunesNBALINKZach LaVine: “We still had a real opportunity to win that game regardless of free throws, so I don’t ever wanna put it on that.”The Kings had a healthy roster and every chance to get over the hump. Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Russell Westbrook and Domantas Sabonis have been on the All-Star team 20 times. But Sacramento didn't make any adjustments against Austin Reaves apart from increasing the ball pressure.
