The LA Lakers can breathe a sigh of relief after Deandre Ayton's MRI results on his right knee came back clean. Coach JJ Redick shared an update on Ayton's injury ahead of the Lakers' home game against the LA Clippers on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena. According to NBA insider Mark Medina, Redick told the media that Ayton's right knee had some swelling and bruised. It wasn't as bad as it initially appeared, and the former No. 1 pick is expected to return to action sometime next week. The Lakers have a relatively easy schedule this week, with four straight games at home before a tough six-game road trip from Dec. 4 to 23. In Ayton's absence, Jaxson Hayes and Maxi Kleber are expected to get the bulk of his minutes. They also signed Drew Timme to a two-way contract after waiving Christian Kaloko. Deandre Ayton suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's game between the LA Lakers and Utah Jazz. Ayton bumped knees with Jazz rookie Ace Bailey, but he remained in the game until the end of the first half. He was evaluated at halftime and was tagged questionable at the start of the third quarter. The Lakers eventually downgraded him to out for the rest of the game, with the Lakers squeaking out a 108-106 win in Salt Lake City. Jaxson Hayes and Maxi Kleber split the minutes at center in the second half, with Luka Doncic leading the way with 33 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Kleber made a game-saving contest on Keyonte George's 3-point attempt late to give the Lakers the road victory. I don't want to speculate on DA, but you know, we feel confident that we have enough options," Redick said.Ayton is having a solid start to his Lakers career this season, averaging 15.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
