The Golden State Warriors suffered a tough 104-100 loss at Chase Center on Wednesday. Despite having a 14-point lead earlier in the game, they could not defeat the Kevin Durant-less Houston Rockets. The 10th loss of the season for the Warriors prompted Jimmy Butler to send a strong message to his teammates.

After dropping four of their last five games, Butler did not sugarcoat anything about what he believed went wrong. He pointed out several issues that have repeatedly hurt them during this tough run.

“We don’t box out,” Butler said during the postgame interview with reporters. “We don’t go with the scouting report. We let anybody do whatever they want - open shots, get into the paint, free throws. It’s just sad.”

Despite the frustration, Jimmy Butler showed his leadership by making sure the blame did not fall on the coaching staff. Steve Kerr had already taken accountability, but Butler wanted his teammates to understand that it is on the players who step onto the hardwood.

“I don't care what Steve say, it's not on him, and it's not on the coaches,” Butler said. “Yeah, they write everything up there for us to do, and they put us in a position to be successful. We go over it the day before, the day of. We gotta go out there and execute, man. So don't listen to Steve when he say ‘this is on me’, and he gotta be better. Nah, it's on these guys around this locker room.”

Statistically, the Warriors simply underperformed. They turned the ball over more than usual, and their ball movement witnessed a dip with fewer assists than their season average. Their shooting also struggled as they hit only 42.7% from the field, including 27.9% from three-point land.

Jimmy Butler led the Warriors in scoring with 21 points while also adding five rebounds and five assists along with two steals.

Draymond Green echoes Jimmy Butler’s comments

Jimmy Butler was not the only one who voiced his frustration about how the team has been playing. Draymond Green also spoke up, sharing similar concerns and bluntly calling out the poor effort.

“Our defense is s**t,” Green said. “We are individually - I know everyone likes to twist words - I said we are individually f**king awful.”

Earlier in the season, Green had already let his teammates know how disappointed he was when the Warriors dropped five of seven games from late October to mid-November. His harsh criticism seemed to spark something at the time because the Warriors bounced back with three wins in a row right after.

Golden State will be hoping for a similar response this time so they can put a stop to the losses.
