In an interview with The Athletic's Nick Friedell, Morant showed his true colors with a telling admission.

"There’s a lot that comes with that,” Morant said. “I play basketball for the love of the game, not to be the face of the NBA. Obviously, I hear that a lot. I don’t put no pressure on it. I just go out and just play my game."

Selected as the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft, Ja Morant quickly asserted his dominance in the league, earning the Rookie of the Year award.

However, the guard has struggled with his health in the last two seasons, playing 59 games during that span. His off-court issues have also hindered his progress, further stalling his development.

Despite his recent challenges and admitting he doesn’t seek the spotlight, Morant remains one of the leading candidates to become the next face of the league.

Steph Curry highlights Ja Morant as one of the "ambassadors" in the league amid other young stars

While Ja Morant distanced himself from the conversation around him being the next face of the league. The Grizzlies star's potential to be one has been noticed by others, including Golden State Warriors legend Steph Curry.

In an interview with The Athletic, Curry highlighted Morant as one of many young stars who could be an "ambassador for the game."

"I hope there’s an energy towards being great ambassadors for the game, whoever the group of guys are, you can obviously name those between the Ja’s, the Ant’s, the Luka’s, the Wemby’s, the Shai’s and all that," Curry expressed.

The new generation of ballers has begun to take center stage in the NBA. While legends like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant remain active, the torch has clearly been passed to the next wave of stars.
