After what happened with the LA Clippers, fans are wondering whether Chris Paul will retire from the NBA. The news broke out on Wednesday, before the Clippers faced the Atlanta Hawks. According to Paul's Instagram update, he received a message from the team informing him to go home.

Without a team, where does Paul go from here? The 2025-26 NBA season was supposed to be his farewell tour to his illustrious career. He can't do that, not until a team reaches out to him and offers a deal. But there aren't many open roster spots around the league.

On Thursday, NBA insider Marc J. Spears recently reached out to the 40-year-old star to see how he's handled the situation. Spears asked Paul the biggest question: whether he'll transition into retirement after his release. The insider gave an update about CP3's career on ESPN's "NBA Today."

“The big question, does he want to retire? Is he done?” Spears said. “I was told, ‘Absolutely not.’ He does want to play.

Spears pointed out that Paul returned to LA over the summer because he wanted to be with his family. That option seemed to be out of the window, not unless a team from the Pacific Division offers him a spot. Another question is where he'll go next to continue his career.

“Where does he go from here? There’s only 10 teams that have roster spots… Could it be away? Could it be out east? Could it be away from his family? I was told that Chris would cross that bridge when he gets there.”

Before the current campaign, Chris Paul spent six seasons with the Clippers. He led the team to six playoff appearances and is arguably the franchise's best player. Paul revolutionized the team with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, creating "Lob City."

James Harden was surprised the Clippers released Chris Paul

The Clippers' decision to let go of Chris Paul was the biggest surprise in the season so far. Fans were caught off guard, and even former NBA players were taken aback by the team's actions. After the team's contest against the Hawks on Wednesday, James Harden revealed that he was just as shocked as everyone else.

"I'm just as confused and shocked as you guys, the world," Harden said. "Definitely surprised me. But not just Chris, it's a lot that we were dealing with. But that is out of my hands. I got to focus on what I got to focus on and what I can control. I guess the front office felt that was the best decision for the organization."

Even All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard had no clue that the Clippers would release Chris Paul.
