Duke coach Jon Scheyer gave his perspective on the comparisons between Lakers coach JJ Redick and No. 4 pick Kon Knueppel. He said that they are wired to win, they are wired to compete their tails off."Spake shared that Scheyer joked about confronting Redick regarding Knueppel's strengths that he didn't boast, saying:"He did tell me ... 'Kon is a better athlete and a better defender,' and he said, 'You know what? I'll say that to JJ [Redick's] face as well.'"JJ Redick played a significant part in Jon Scheyer's decision to join the Blue Devils during his commitment process. In Scheyer's two visits, Redick produced two of his best scoring games. He had 38 points in a February 2005 game against Wake Forest and 40 in a January 2006 contest against Virginia. They didn't play together, but Redick and Scheyer share tremendous mutual respect.
