The Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs went head-to-head in an NBA Cup clash at the Frost Bank Center on Friday. The Rockets entered the game seeking their sixth consecutive win, while the Spurs sought a solid performance to break their two-game losing streak.

Both teams kept their starting lineups intact. Houston started with Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Josh Okogie and Jabari Smith Jr. San Antonio was led by Victor Wembanyama, with Julian Champagnie, Harrison Barnes, Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell rounding off the starters.

The Rockets jumped to a 14-9 lead after six minutes of action, with every starter making at least one shot. Okogie led the team with five quick points, including a 3-pointer.

Harrison Barnes caught fire from deep and knocked down three 3-pointers, which propelled the Spurs to a 21-16 lead with a 12-2 run. The Rockets responded with a 9-2 run to close the quarter and took a 25-23 lead into the second period. Tari Eason scored five points and provided the offensive spark for Houston off the bench.

The visitors extended their lead in the second quarter on the back of Reed Sheppard's eight points. Houston coach Ime Udoka's game plan to stop Victor Wembanyama was perfectly executed as the Spurs superstar struggled.

San Antonio made a push in the final two-and-a-half minutes and was instantly rewarded for its assertiveness. The hosts entered the halftime break with a 51-50 lead.

The Spurs won the third quarter 35-32 and entered the fourth period leading 86-82. The Rockets trailed by double digits at one point in the period, but Kevin Durant's offensive production kept the visitors within striking distance.

The Spurs maintained control in the final period, with Wembanyama and Stephon Castle's excellent playmaking paving the way for a 121-110 win.
