Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors Game Summary

The Houston Rockets visited the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday for a crucial NBA Cup game. Without Kevin Durant, the Rockets needed Alperen Sengun, Reed Sheppard and Amen Thompson to step up. A win by the Rockets would keep their chances of entering the next round alive.

The Rockets trailed 20-11 halfway through the first quarter before regrouping to make the game close. Reed Sheppard's 11 points keyed the turnaround. Clint Capela's back-to-back baskets inched Houston to within 22-20, forcing the Dubs to a timeout.

A defensive slugfest ensued after the timeout, helping the Warriors to a 25-22 after the first quarter ended.

The Golden State Warriors' zone defense caused problems for the Rockets in the second quarter. Even when playing undersized, the Dubs contained the visiting team's imposing frontline. Golden State's balanced attack helped them to a 59-47 lead at halftime.

The Rockets clamped down on the Warriors, particularly late in the third quarter. They cut the halftime deficit to 76-74 heading into the final 12 minutes. Reed Sheppard, who had 15 first-half points, dropped nine more to lead Houston's offense.

The fourth quarter was a slugfest on both ends. Houston regained the lead after Aaron Holiday drained a 3-pointer to open the final frame. Golden State moved to within 102-100 following Moses Moody's 27-footer.

Reed Sheppard made two free throws with 5.4 seconds left before Moody missed a triple, enabling the Houston Rockets to win 104-100.
