In a move called “stunning” by NBA insiders, the LA Clippers parted ways with Chris Paul, arguably their greatest player, on Wednesday. CP3 announced at 3 a.m. ET via an Instagram story that he had been sent home by his team. The Clippers were in Atlanta, where the team president of basketball operations, Lawrence Frank, reportedly told Paul that the team no longer wanted him.

Former NBA champ Kendrick Perkins, on “The Road Trippin’ Show,” commented on what happened between the Clippers and the 12x All-Star:

“It was stuff that kept building up throughout the course of the season. (Paul) was doing stuff behind Ty Lue’s back. Going to players, whispering, saying things and causing turmoil when the team was already struggling and going through a lot.”

Perkins said that his co-hosts Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye won championships with Clippers coach Ty Lue in Cleveland. The former Boston Celtics center added that Chris Paul likely forced the team’s hand, as it would take a lot to get to Lue.

The Clippers were 5-16 heading into their game against the Hawks. Lawrence Frank said in an ESPN interview on Thursday that he did not send Chris Paul home because the Clippers underperformed. Frank added that he was not making CP3 the scapegoat of their struggles, only underlining that the veteran point guard was not “the right fit.”

“CP3 ain’t no saint”: Kendrick Perkins on what his sources said about Chris Paul

Kendrick Perkins emphasized that he formed his opinion of the Chris Paul situation after what he had heard. Perk said that he also received text messages from sources who know the story behind the scenes.

Perkins shared a key point from the messages he received:

“They’re saying, ‘Hey, Perk, stop it now. You know CP3 ain’t no saint.’” These were people who actually shared a locker room with CP3!”

Kendrick Perkins gave an example of a play where Clippers assistant coach and defensive coordinator Jeff Van Gundy called the team to run a defensive scheme. According to Perkins, Van Gundy assigned a young player a specific task before Chris Paul told said teammate to do something different.

Perkins claimed that the teammate, who did as Paul asked, “got his a** cooked.”

Paul has only been giving cryptic messages on IG since parting with the Clippers. Only time will tell if he gives a statement or responds to Perkins’ comments.
