The Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets renewed their rivalry with an NBA Cup showdown at the Ball Arena on Friday. The Warriors took the court without their charismatic leader, Steph Curry, who missed his second straight game due to illness.

Moses Moody was named in Golden State's starting lineup, with Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski being the other four starters. On the flip side, the Nuggets stuck to their usual lineup of Jamal Murray, Christian Braun, Cam Johnson, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Jokic.

Denver wasted no time in taking advantage of their home court and Curry's absence. Jokic's outrageous playmaking helped the Nuggets take an 18-6 lead. The Warriors' offense appeared lifeless without Curry, struggling to find any rhythm or execution. Denver didn't let go of the rope after a hot start and won the first quarter 32-21.

The Warriors made a 10-0 start to the second quarter and cut the deficit to just one point. Denver came up with a huge response and went on a 19-3 run to extend the lead to 51-34. At halftime, the Warriors found themselves down 66-49, with their starters getting outscored 54-18 in the opening half.

Golden State's starters shot 7-of-26, including 2-of-14 from deep. Denver's starters shot 21-of-34, including 10-of-16 from beyond the arc.

The Nuggets hunted Podziemski and it resulted in buckets for them more often than not. Jokic and Murray clicked in all parameters, killing all hopes of a potential Warriors comeback. The hosts won the third quarter 33-28 and took a commanding 99-77 lead into the final period.

The fourth quarter was a mere formality, but the Nuggets made sure that they won (30-27) the final period as well. The hosts cruised to a 129–104 win, piling on even more misery to the Warriors’ recent struggles.
