Former NBA Champ Arrested on Drug Charges: Report 

Former NBA guard Tony Allen was arrested on Wednesday on drug charges in Poinsett County, Arkansas. According to the Poinsett County Sheriff's Office, substances that were later identified as marijuana and cocaine were found in the car Allen was in during a traffic stop. The former NBA player was booked into the Poinsett County Jail on Nov. 5.

The 2008 champion was reportedly charged with one count "of possession of less than two grams of a Schedule 1 or 2 drug." Allen is also charged with one count of "possession of less than four ounces of a Schedule 4 drug."

The former Memphis Grizzlies guard was reportedly a passenger in the vehicle. The driver, William Hatton, was also arrested, according to ESPN.

Cannabis for recreational use is illegal in the state of Arkansas. Possessing up to four ounces has a punishment of a $2,500 fine, imprisonment of up to a year and "a mandatory six-month driver's license suspension."

Allen was a productive role player in the NBA. He was around the league for 14 years (2004-2018), and played for the Boston Celtics, Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans. The 6-foot-4 guard made a career with his defensive tenacity, which led him to earn six All-Defensive selections.

After playing basketball, Tony Allen transitioned into podcasting. He co-hosts the show "Out the Mud," with former co-star Zach Randolph. Together with Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, the two served as the cornerstones of the Grizzlies' "Grit and Grind" era.

This isn't the first time that Allen has gotten in trouble with the law. He entered a guilty plea to charges of conspiring to commit wire fraud and healthcare fraud in 2023. He was also detained in 2021 on allegations of domestic abuse.
