The 2025-26 season was supposed to mark a fairytale end for Chris Paul. However, in a shocking turn of events, the Clippers released the 12-time All-Star early Wednesday morning. The Athletic reported that Paul did not initiate the decision.

On Wednesday, FanDuel's "Run It Back" crew discussed the matter with former Clippers player Lou Williams.

"CP3 was holding players and coaches accountable. From players to staff, from coaching staff up to the front office," Williams said. "He was critical of the front office as well and I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back."

Williams said there was a situation in which Paul apologized for his criticism, but made sure to let them know it came from his desire to see the team do well.

He added that the Clippers' decision to release Paul looked bad for both parties involved, and that CP3 could have been the first player to have his jersey retired by the franchise.

The Clippers (5-16) are going through a rough patch. They are on a five-game losing streak and have won only two of their last 10 games. They are 14th in the Western Conference standings.

Clippers president Lawrence Frank confirmed the decision in a press release.

"We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team. We will work with him on the next step of his career,” Frank said in a statement. “Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career."
"I want to make one thing very clear. No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are a lot of reasons why we’ve struggled. We’re grateful for the impact Chris has made on the franchise."

Chris Paul played 16 games for the Clippers, averaging 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
